Mrs WarrenWhat do you teach? At the moment I'm doing all the Zulu in the school from Grade 1 - Grade 7, and Grade 6 Social Sciences. I've been out of teaching for four years, but before that I was at Forest View Primary for fourteen years. At that time I ran the Zulu Classes and the Computer Centre. I was a Grade Teacher in Grade 7 for six years. I did all the History, Georgraphy, English and Zulu, and all the Life Orientation in Grade 6 and Grade 7.

Mrs Collet and I used to share the assemblies because I play the guitar, which I also used to teach. I was Head of House for Duiker.

Currently I am filling in for Mrs Mathebula, and thoroughly enjoying being back in the swing of things.

How long have you been teaching altogether? 24 years.

What do you love about Forest View? The teachers here are phenomenal: they really CARE for the learners. They also care for each other - it's a very nurturing school on all levels.

What is your philosophy of teaching? Every child has got potential - it doesn't matter who they are. My goal is to reach in and grab that potential  in each child: make them aware of their talents and confident enough to express that gifting. So many children today don't have any confidence in themselves: between life pressures and peer pressure, all the enthusiasm seems to have been taken out of the next generation. I feel that it is my job to reignite that in each learner I teach.

I also believe firmly in the value of respect. Many of today's problems would be solved if people had respect: for one another; for leaders; for the environment: everything ad everyone needs and deserves to give and receive respect.

Finally, to make learning as enjoyable as possible and cultivate a lifelong passion for learning.

What is your passion? Bringing life to a classroom! Making learning fun.

I am also passionate about the environment. This school is very lucky because when the school was started, every tree that was planted was indigenous. We were one of the first schools to have an entirely indigenous garden. We have the most awesome birdlife as a result. As I drive around, I see the degradation of the environment and it saddens me immensely. I'd love to do something massive to improve the environment.

I also love history: I'm passionate about finding out where we're from. It helps to see where we're going. When teaching history, I tell the story, rather than just handing out dry facts.

What is your vision?  To find a way to improve academic standards, making provision for those who are strong academically as well as those with special learning needs.
